Children's Photography Session - Orange County Photography

I had such a blast with this session. Barron was celebrating his 1st birthday for this shoot. I have to say I loved his little outfits, I'm a total sucker for overalls :)

You may recognize this cutie and his baby-blues from a family session back in December where I photographed both him and his big sister Charlee. See those posts {here} and {here.}

It was great to see how much Barron had already grown in such a short time. He was all smiles during our session. Giddy-up cowboy!

She's just too precious... just look at those eyes! :)

How gorg are this little ones eyes? Holy green! I got to photograph my friends and their darling little one the other day for their Holiday card. We shot these pictures at the park right near our houses.. I’m just loving how they turned out. So fun!

Oh my goodness.. how cute is little Jacob!? This nine month old stud-muffin just started walking so of course we had to get some pics of that. :) Love the one of him near the fence. You should have seen him, he had his poses down pat. It was far too cute!

Psst. Turns out Jacob is little {Nico's} cousin.. obviously adorableness runs in the fam!

These girls soooo won me over right away - look how cute this duo is! Not only did they have the cutest poses ever but also had the best personalities. They had me cracking up! Loving their grey newsboy caps and beanies with pink tights. (Mom and dad coordinated fabulously!) Stay tuned for more pics of the adorable Dunakin family.

Sneak Peek - Family Photography Session

Here's a sneak peek of the Buchanan's session from last week... what a beautiful family. I photographed little Nico's newborn pictures almost exactly a year ago when she was just two weeks old. It was so cute to see her again - isn't she gorgeous!?

Psst. Love what they all wore, this is a great example on how to coordinate without being too "matchy" and adding pops of color. Also diggin' the Tiny-Couture headband that Nico's rockin - uber cute.

Just look at these eyes... precious!

Sneak Peek - Family Photography Session

What is not to love about this family.. they rock! I photographed the beautiful Raquel Beezley, a former Miss CA USA and her momma earlier this year at the beach. (Such a fun session - click {here} to see that post.) So I was super excited to do their family session last week. There were seven people total for this shoot and they were all hilarious. What an amazing family - they just ooze love & fun!

P.S. Loving the purple they all wore!

Sneak Peek - Family Photography Session

Here's a sneak peek from todays family holiday session.. can you say gorgeous family!?! They were just too cute.

I simply love fall and all the delicious colors it lends us, so it was a great day to be at the park. I can’t wait to go over all the images from this session. By the way, I’m totally diggin’ the color palette. Hot pink + chocolate brown = fun! (This is a great example on how to coordinate for your family photos and bring in some color without being matchy-matchy.)
Psst. Recognize that little 3 week old cutie-pie in the pics? I posted a sneak peek of her newborn session this week. {here}

Tips on what to wear...

  1. Tis the season for holiday photos! One of the most frequent questions I get asked is, “What should we wear?” And it’s a good one! Clothing can make a huge difference in the outcome of your photos. Whoever said everyone needs to match exactly for their family portraits was telling a big ol' fib. You don't all have to wear denim jeans and matching black shirts. Have fun with your clothes and wear something that you're comfortable in, express yourself.

  1. A few things to try to remember when choosing your wardrobe:

  2. • You can coordinate your clothes without being to "matchy-matchy." Try pulling from the same color palette and mixing it up a tad. Colors don't have to match, but they do need to go together. Clothing from the same color pallette or based on colors in one outfit tend to create a cohesive look without feeling too "matchy."
  3. • Solids are your friend for photography, I always tell clients to stay away from loud prints (i.e. Hawaiian prints) as they tend to take away from the image and can get distracting. Smaller patterns on part of an outfit look fine, but keep it to one or two people in your group. Patterns should compliment each other, not draw attention away from the main subject of the photo, you!
  4. • Layer, layer, layer!! Instead of everyone wearing a solid color shirt, mix up the color by layering. This allows two people standing next to each other not to blend in and adds a lot of dimension to the photograph.

  1. • Texture, it goes a long way and can add a ton to the ensemble.
  2. • Accessorize. Think scarves, jewelry, hair accessories, belts, hats, beanies for the little ones, and maybe even a tutu for your little darling.  Mix it up and give yourself some options. Miss Priss Tutus has lovely tutus and you can find amazing accessories on Etsy.
  3. • Dress the hardest person first. When doing a group photo (or even a couple's session) dress the hardest person first. Usually women have a harder time deciding on what to wear (hey, it's true!) so let her choose her outfit first. Now that you've got one person's clothing done, you can build the rest of the group's outfits.

  1. • No logos. There I said it. You shouldn't wear anything with a big logo or writing across your shirt.
  2. • Dress for the same party. You don’t want to have one person wearing a t-shirt, while someone else is wearing a cute dress. Everyone in the photo should be dressed on the same level. Either all casual or all dressed up.
  3. • Long sleeves are better than bare arms. This one applies to some... I often hear people saying they aren't huge fans of how their arms look in photographs. So if you might be one of those people then long sleeves are usually best. (and besides bare arms can distract from the beauty in your face.) Wear something that you are comfy in. If you are not at ease with how you look, this will show in your photographs.

  1. • Hands and feetOften, we will take photos of details like hand-holding, rings, and even family feet. Remember to clean and trim nails before your session.  (Ladies splurge on a mani/pedi and choose a color that you like.) For feet, if you have matching shoes or shoes in the same shade, that's a plus. Of course, bare feet are fab for those sandy beach sessions.
  2. • Keep in mind where you are going to be shootingMost family and couples sessions are held on-location outdoors, so think about the setting. Think of life's natural colors. Example: if you're going to be outdoors at a park there will be a lot of green and yellow tones in the grass so try going with a complimentary color in the purple or blue family. (It will look great in the end result!) Need to peek at a color wheel? Then click here.

  3. Last but not least... wear your smile. Remember your photo session is your day, so have fun with it!

  4. Psst. Here are some ideas that I've put together in the past, enjoy!

    Family Photography Session

I am so behind with posting here... eek, tisk tisk on me!

I wanted to post a couple new entries since I haven't found the time to log on lately. (Things got a wee bit busy with Holiday photos and card designs - which I am super thankful for.)

The Gordon family was so sweet and full of fun. Avery, their little girl is just a doll... look at these eyes, can you say precious!?! So adorable! (Even Max their little Maltese won me over!)

Another lovely day in beautiful breezy Southern California... aweee life is good!

    The Oblen Family

I’ve been so bad about blogging these days, shame on me! I really need to get back into it...I’ve said this before, but I'm really going to try to keep up with this. (Promise!) My goal would be to eventually post one quick blog after each new session. So stay tuned! (*smirk)

In the meantime... I have been coming across so many sessions that I never posted.. so picking out some favorites and posting a few of them.

Meet the Oblen Family...one of my fave clients, ever. This family rocks! Paula is so fun to be around and she just oozes creativity. (psst...how adorable is her little boy!?!)

Sneak Peek - Newborn Photography Session

Here's a sneak peek of a photo from last weeks newborn session with little Jayden. What an adorable little one, he was so calm and sweet at just two weeks old.

I'll be posting more images in another blog soon...stay tuned.

    Newborn Photography Session

I just adore newborn sessions...but this one was definitely a fave! This adorable little bundle of cuteness belongs to my dear friends.

Little Daisy Renee was welcomed into this world a couple months ago and has brought nothing but complete joy to those around her. She is just the sweetest little ray of sunshine!

A huge congratulations to my friends Jenny and Kyle...I am so very happy for you!

    Children's Photography Session

Near the end of the Summer my husband and I volunteered some time to a really amazing bunch of children who were attending a local VBS program. (Vacation Bible School.) The kids do arts and crafts, play, sing songs, and many more fun things. I did portraits of 125+ children that day and my hubby painted a vibrant mural filled with color as a stage backdrop for them along with other props.(including a giant paper mache alligator named jacque. hee hee) We had a great time there and met some adorable little ones with the funniest and sweetest personalities. We look forward to going back next year!
